You had two wrongs:
- the cracking issue isn't an open issue, even though it is a very common
thing
- this is the news group of the manufactor of your target...

This reminds me of several music download discussions I have been into, some
people take it for almost normal and not questionable that someone actually
created the initial product, and in that respect has some kind of rights...
