I am trying to get off on the right foot programming a web application against Sql Server. I find the choices of data access overwhelming. I want to choose the best approach.

So far, I think that Sql Server Broker is not the preferred choice for most general application development. It seems that WCF is (which is a suite of Asp.net based tools?) and I would want to implement the service as an .asmx, yes?

I found a site that I am inclined to use as my model. Can someone review the page and see if it is the best and most current information to serve as my model, and/or point me to another, better model?

Here is the link:

Many thanks,

Also, is this the normal way to control access to particular pages?

http://www.codeplex.com/WCFSecurity/Wiki/Print.aspx?title=How%20To%20-%20Use%20S
QL%20Role%20Provider%20with%20Windows%20Authentication%20in%20WCF%20calling%20fr
om%20Windows%20Forms&version=5&action=Print

And what is the relationship between LinqToSql and Windows Communication Foundation? Is it a best practice as well?

Thanks,
